Although the temperature difference between the tube in CE relative to the surrounding air does not affect the plate height or plate count in a direct way, the variation of the temperature within the electrolyte can significantly reduce the efficiency of a C E separation. In the case of CE systems with self heating of the liquid core (Joule heating), there would be a small parabolic disturbance superimposed on the uniform migration velocity of a solute along the tube.
