Cutchenmine Trail Length: 4 miles Description: Cutchenmine Trail derives its name from a late 1800s miner who built a flume to Short Creek to get his coal to civilization. This relatively easy trail is fairly level as well, but it does require more care in stepping over rocks along the shoreline and across small ravines created by the erosion of the banks of Short Creek. The trail originates just east of the park manager's office on AL 227 and is bracketed by the lakeshore and the highway for a short distance before turning south to ford a small creek.

Trail length is given as distance, not hiking time, since time varies widely from individual to individual. The time spent by a budding naturalist strolling along a given trail will differ considerably from a backpacker trying to make a long day's evening campsite. For beginners, it is always best to take a day hike or two to establish the average rate of travel before attempting a long stretch of trail. Trail length is given for a complete loop, if described as such, or for a one-way trip, if the trail begins and ends at different locations.
